For the eighth consecutive year, the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Clubs of New York has orchestrated a breathtaking Decorator Show House in Palm Beach, showcasing extraordinary design talent and pushing creative boundaries. Artistic Tile is honored to once again sponsor this prestigious event and is thrilled to be featured prominently in several of the stunningly appointed rooms within the grand Georgian mansion. Six esteemed designers employed a selection of exquisite glass and stone mosaics, textured dimensional tile, and customizable patterns to bring their visionary concepts to life.

Atelier Botanica by Nikki Levy unfolds across two floors, connected by a grand circular staircase, revealing a striking contrast in mood. Upstairs, cool blues and greens blend into vibrant mauves, magenta, violet, and aubergine, evoking a sense of whimsy and romance. Downstairs, the atmosphere deepens into a moody, contemplative darkness. Tucked beneath the stairs is a magnificent curvilinear wall glistening with Dark Cherry Dizzy Plum. “I wanted something that felt like a wallpaper, but I didn’t actually want a wallpaper, because I wanted something that was tactile, something that was faceted, with vibrance. On this wall, it’s tile where you wouldn’t think a tile would work, but this lays like satin. It looks as if it is beautifully draped on this wall.”

This Mood Ring Stairway Changes Colors As You Ascend—And We’re Here For It
You can sense the vibe shift as you move from deep purples to vibrant sea greens, with florals blooming underfoot.
“I always love to design with an artistic concept in place; there’s always a story in my head,” says Boca Raton, Florida-based designer Nikki Levy. And in a prominent stairway corridor at this year’s Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach, that story is a vivid, mercurial tale of self discovery through color, texture, and a sea of beautiful contrasts.
“There is a sense of both masculine and feminine in our bodies and brains, in how we think and what we do,” adds Levy who includes both the upstairs and downstairs galleries. “As I was designing, I was going from these soft, gentle pinks into bright oranges and yellows, and eventually into dark green all the way on the other side, and it just felt like a representation of these different sides of myself. There’s the quiet side, the romantic side, the kind of loud and vibrant side, and the contemplative side.”
It’s a journey the designer encourages visitors to embark on as well as they move through the space. The centerpieces are custom runners Levy designed with RuggleUp, blooming oversize, colorful florals up the stairs and down long corridors, like a cutting garden exploding with color. Their palettes shift in harmony with the walls, painted in complementary shades by Benjamin Moore, while decorative flowers by Roland DGA bloom across the ceilings. A mix of tactile, alabaster-white furnishings mingle with more vibrant pieces by Made Goods, striking a harmonious balance.
Levy sourced artwork through CoCollect, showcasing pieces by Kalee Appleton and Allyson Monson, while Hector Finch lamps cast ambient light on Levy’s contemplative journey. She also an assortment of Kravet fabrics throughout the upstairs and downstairs halls, giving the space beautiful depth—and a memorable passage through gently unfolding color.

Nikki was born in South Africa where her interest in interior décor was piqued at an early age. Her greatest joy as a child was to move furniture around her home and spray paint her mothers particularly unstylish succulents in the garden because they offended her aesthetic. The vivid and inspiring interiors-cape of South Africa fed Nikki’s passions, and she would eventually use the international flavours represented in her South African background to feed her design aesthetic. After moving to South Florida with her husband, 3 children, and a design philosophy that revolved around her life as a wife and mother; Nikki set up her business focusing on what she believed to be an indisputable fact: each client is unique. With a business based on that core value, she understands that people want to have Interiors spaces that make sense of their personal lifestyle and they do not want to sacrifice a beautiful home for practical living.

Above: Warm wood cabinetry and a marble-top island paired with circular, leather-wrapped bar stools create an inviting gathering space in this airy kitchen. In the corner, a light-filled bay window is outfitted with cushioned seating to provide a cozy, bistro-style breakfast nook.

“We’re very creative, very innovative, and very client-centric,” says Levy, a South African native who relocated to South Florida with her husband and three children. “We never do the same thing twice. Every home is unique and different.”

Color, color, color! New paint color trends are all about individuality and diversity. More people want to make their home their own and a representation of their own personal style than in recent years, but are unsure of the end result. We spoke to top designers to get their take on color and its application throughout homes in South Florida. “We have always loved color and the joy and atmosphere that it brings to a home,” says Nikki Levy of Nikki Levy Interiors in Boca Raton.
Levy sees three distinct versions of color happening in current and future trends. “Earthy neutrals like tobaccos, camel, mocha, and dirty greens; pastels such as blushes, soft blues, mint greens, and corals; Saturated colors go bold with deep emeralds, sapphire blue, rich yellows, and peacock teals.” Amanda Reynal of Amanda Reynal Interiors says, “I am really loving sunny lemon yellow as a bright and happy color for 2024; it pairs well with green, coral, and all shades of blue.” Levy is partial to Backdrop brand paint and wallcoverings. “It’s such a fun range [of colors] and they also make wallpapers to match the paints.”
Both Levy and Barbara Lewis of Lewis Design Group agree that ceilings, often called The Fifth Wall, are being utilized in more exciting ways. “I rarely do a white ceiling anymore,” says Lewis, “In addition to paint and wallpaper, you also see many ceilings treated with lattice, woodwork, and plaster ornamentation.” Engaging the Fifth Wall brings a level of drama and detail that Levy says makes it the “exclamation point on the space.” According to Levy it “allows for a little more adventure as the design is not as ‘in your face’ as a wall application.”
Modern and sleek fixtures blend with intricate woodworking and bold design to create a seamlessly chic space. Teal, emerald green, white, and gold connect to create a monochromatic scheme that feels light and effortless in this stunning bathroom.
Finishes also make a statement. Pairing matte and gloss finishes in cabinetry, for example, is something Levy says she often uses. She says that finishes “add a depth to design that nothing else does.” Lustrous finishes are also a go-to, “whether it’s a low-luster finish to a high gloss lacquer,” Lewis says she sees people gravitating towards sheens.
Reynal says, “I also love a crisp robin’s egg blue paired with deep reddish coral pink. The softness of the blue against coral is a lovely contrast.” Beyond the trends these top designers are seeing, celebrating your own unique style is always in fashion. Embracing colors you love and creating your ideal space is never the wrong move. Lewis urges people not to be afraid to embrace the colors they love and to try incorporating their favorite colors in smaller spaces and growing from there.
“It’s more important to go with what makes you feel comfortable and happy in your space,” says Levy, “Paints are usually quite easy to change, so it’s a place where you can think beyond the expected, have fun, and go a little over the top.”
