Cosentino Brings Surfacing Innovations to the Fifth Annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach
Returning for the third year in a row, Cosentino joins top architects and designers to transform a historic Mediterranean Revival estate
Cosentino Group, the global leader in innovative architectural surfacing solutions, is honored to announce its sponsorship of the fifth annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach, a designer showcase featuring the expertise and creativity of 24 renowned architects and designers from across the country. Putting the best of Palm Beach design on display, the Show House is open to the public for both in-person and virtual 3D video tours, with all proceeds benefiting the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club and the local Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County.
From March 5 to April 3, 2022, the Show House, aptly named “The Mansion of Northwood” for its Old Northwood Historic District location, will serve as a backdrop for this year’s event and will showcase each design firm’s transformative creations within the 20,000 square-foot Mediterranean Revival estate. Built in 1923 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the showhome unites the best of past and present Palm Beach design with notable spaces, including the main kitchen, primary bathroom, and guest house kitchen, featuring the latest innovations from Cosentino’s ultra-compact Dekton® and Silestone® quartz surfaces.
“We are thrilled to support the Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach once again,” says Eduardo Cosentino, CEO of Cosentino North America and EVP Global Sales, Cosentino Group. “As a brand focused on reimagining the future of design, we look forward to collaborating with the designers, architects, and brands who join forces for Kips Bay each year to push boundaries with creative designs and surfacing applications. It’s a privilege to be part of this initiative for the third year in a row, and to continue to support such a meaningful cause through our work with the Boys & Girls Club.”
Inspired by the roots of the historic 1923 property, Bakes & Kropp’s design embraces a transitional Mediterranean sensibility that fits seamlessly within the aesthetic of the home. The custom kitchen maintains a thoughtful balance of colors and textures, with a sleek white foundation featuring the eye-catching, glossy Silestone Ethereal Glow countertop, textured wood elements, and polished metal accents. Bakes & Kropp’s new luxury finishes, Cinder Walnut 9213 and Black Matte Paint 9017, present a stunning contrast to the kitchen’s white backdrop, pairing beautifully with Ethereal Glow’s golden and gray veining.
“I selected Silestone Ethereal Glow knowing that it’s meant to serve as the evolution of Silestone Calcutta Gold, which I’ve used in past projects, and based on my confidence in Silestone products,” said Robert Bakes, co-owner and head of design at Bakes & Kropp Fine Cabinetry. “Using Ethereal Glow for the kitchen countertops and backsplash perfectly balanced the one-of-a-kind luxury white and black painted and dark stained walnut cabinetry, hand-crafted in our Michigan factory by our teams of talented woodworkers.”
Envisioning a young, sophisticated family that makes the most of all the spaces in their home, Nikki Levy’s upstairs bathroom design evokes a sense of fun and whimsy through the play of curves and shapes, textures, and color. The light-hearted design featuring moon-shaped mosaic tiles, blue-hued abstract wallpaper, and brass detailing is anchored by the custom-cut fluted vanity crafted with Silestone Sunlit Days Cala Blue.
“I wanted to spark joy back into the design through the use of bright colors and the blending of soft and hard materials for this sweet bathroom,” said designer Nikki Levy. “Cosentino’s Silestone is a differentiator in the industry, offering pure solid colors that still feel sleek and fresh. Cala Blue was exactly what I was looking for — it’s a soft, yet sophisticated blue that didn’t limit our creativity, but offered a great addition to complete the design.”
The fuse of Catherine Austin’s favorite sunny destinations — Marrakech, Costa Rica, the Cote d’Azur, and Palm Beach — set the tone for her concept of the guest house galley kitchen, where form follows function. Her colorful design features premier products, including Dekton Opera countertops that balance the technicolor palette of the space.
“We wanted something light and bright to balance the vibrant colors and tie into the white background of the wallpaper, which visually connects the kitchen to the dining room,” said designer Catherine M. Austin. “Dekton Opera gave us the versatility we were searching for — the white is sophisticated; not too blue or too icy.”
